Pull chain fans

The fan and light do not work

1. Inspect the wiring at the outlet box and verify that the connections are correct and no wire nuts have fallen out. 2. If your fan has a 9-pin molex plug that connects the switch housing or light kit to the motor, inspect the connectors. Ensure nothing is melted or broken, and ensure the pins for all the wires are fully inserted. 3. If your fan does not have a connector plug, remove the light kit or switch cap and inspect the wires inside. There should be no loose, damaged, or un-crimped wires. 4. If the connections and assembly appear okay, contact customer service.

Only the light does not work

1. Verify that the light switch chain is retracting correctly when pulled. 2. Inspect the wiring at the outlet box and ensure the blue wire from the fan is properly connected to a hot wire from the ceiling. 3. If you are using a dimmer switch on the wall, ensure the bulbs installed on your fan are dimmable (CFL bulbs and most LED bulbs are NOT dimmable). 4. Remove the glass and unscrew the light kit. Verify that the plug connecting the light kit to the fan isn’t loose or melted. Inspect the pins for the wires inside the plugs and ensure they are fully inserted. 4. If everything appears to be assembled and connected correctly, contact customer service.

only the fan does not work

1. Verify that the speed switch chain is retracting correctly when pulled. 2. Ensure the reverse switch (if applicable) isn’t stuck in the center position. 3. Inspect the wiring at the outlet box and ensure the black wire from the fan is properly connected to a hot wire from the ceiling. 4. If you are using a wall switch, ensure it is on/off only. Dimmer speed switches are not compatible with pull chain fans. 5. Remove the light kit or switch cap and verify that the connections inside the switch housing are secure and the capacitor isn’t burnt or melted. 6. If everything appears to be assembled and connected correctly, contact customer service.

the fan is running slow

1. Verify that the fan is not connected to a dimmer switch or a remote/receiver kit. 2. Turn the fan off and spin it by hand. Verify that there is no resistance or grinding. 3. Remove the light kit or switch cap and verify that the capacitor inside isn’t burnt or melted. 4. If everything appears to be assembled and connected correctly, contact customer service.

the fan has no airflow

1. Verify that the fan isn’t in reverse. Most fans will spin counter-clockwise for regular operation and clockwise for reverse (see the owner’s manual). 2. Verify that the fan is running at full speed. 3. Verify that the blades were installed correctly with the correct side facing up (unless the fan uses reversible blades). 4. Verify that the fan is the correct size for the room. Fans that are too small for a room will have limited coverage unless directly underneath. Fans that are too large for a room will produce limited windspeed and won’t feel as noticeable anywhere in the room. 5. Note that fans installed in open spaces, such as covered patios, or fans installed on longer downrods will have reduced air circulation capabilities.

The fan wobbles

1. Verify that all screws for the blades and for the blade arms are fully tightened and even. 2. Verify that none of the blade arms or blades are bent or warped. 3. Verify that the ceiling outlet box is not loose and that both screws are fully tightened on the hanger bracket. 4. Verify that the groove in the hanger ball is aligned with the tab in the hanger bracket (if applicable). 5. Verify that the collar screws and the cotter and locking pin for the downrod (if applicable) are fully inserted and tightened. 6. If everything appears to be assembled and tightened correctly, contact customer service. A balancing kit may be recommended to help limit wobbling. Note that fans installed on longer downrods or sloped ceilings will be more prone to wobbling.

The fan is noisy

1. Verify that the blades, blade arms, and plates around them are not grinding or making contact. 2. Verify that the the fan is not wobbling. 3. Verify that the groove in the hanger ball is aligned with the tab in the hanger bracket (if applicable). 4. Remove the light kit or switch cap and verify that the capacitor is not burnt or melted. 5. If everything appears to be assembled and connected correctly, contact customer service.
