DC motor fans

How to pair a DC Remote. Verify which version you have (0:27) and use the menu below to skip ahead to the correct section.

Most DC motor issues can be resolved by properly pairing the remote. View the video for more details.

The fan turns back and forth when starting up

The back and forth action is part of the DC motor’s blade calibration and will occur upon each startup. This process is normal for all DC motor fans and will ensure the blades consistently run in a balanced and energy efficient manner.

The fan and light do not work

1. Complete the pairing process with the remote (even if you have already done so). There are pairing instructions for the current generation black remote and the legacy “learning” white remote. 2. Ensure the light on the remote flashes when buttons are pressed and the remote has good batteries. 3. Verify that the wiring at the ceiling box was done correctly and that no wire nuts have fallen off. 4. If everything appears to be assembled and connected correctly, contact customer service.

only the light does not work

1. Verify that the light on the remote flashes when the light buttons are pressed. If your remote has dimming functionality, cycle through the different brightness levels to see if the fan’s light function is restored. 2. Remove the glass and unscrew the light kit. Verify that the plug connecting the light kit to the fan isn’t loose or melted. Inspect the pins for the wires inside the plugs and ensure they are fully inserted. 3. If everything appears to be connected correctly, contact customer service. The motor controller module, light kit, limiter (if applicable), or LED driver (if applicable) may need to be replaced.

only the fan does not work

1. Verify that the light on the remote flashes when the on/off or speed buttons are pressed. 2. If you are using the current generation remote (black remote) ensure you are pressing the on/off button on top of the remote to start the fan up before attempting to press the fan speed buttons. You may need to pair the remote as well. 3. If you are using a legacy “learning” remote (white remote), be sure to pair the remote and wait for the 6 minute calibration process to complete. 4. If everything appears to be connected correctly, contact customer service. The motor controller module may need to be replaced.

The fan has no airflow

1. Verify that the fan isn’t in reverse. Most fans will spin counter-clockwise for regular operation and clockwise for reverse (see the owner’s manual). 2. Verify that the fan is running at full speed. 3. Verify that the blades were installed correctly with the correct side facing up (unless the fan uses reversible blades). 4. Verify that the fan is the correct size for the room. Fans that are too small for a room will have limited coverage unless directly underneath. Fans that are too large for a room will produce limited windspeed and won’t feel as noticeable anywhere in the room. 5. Note that fans installed in open spaces, such as covered patios, or fans installed on longer downrods will have reduced air circulation capabilities.
